Find a lawyer who cares about you and will advocate for you.
If you’re looking for a criminal defense attorney in Portland Maine, you should be thinking about someone who is going to listen to you, listen to your story and be an advocate for you. Advocate for you in front of the judge, in front of the jury, in front of the prosecutor. And someone who you’ll be able to trust. Trust the advice you’re getting from them.
So I think getting an attorney involved as early in the process as possible, would be advisable. It would be my advice. Which isn’t to say that you need to hire the first attorney that you meet with whether it’s at the courthouse or the first phone call you make. There are a lot of criminal defense attorneys in Portland. Just because you’ve met with someone doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go with them. If you listen to your gut and have a feeling that this person is going to listen to me and to my story and be an advocate for me. Then that is the person you should hire. But if your gut is telling you that this person is just going to clean me out and take my money and not put forward the things that I think are important. You should find someone else because that’s a disservice to the client and to service to the system.
